public interface LongEntity
extends net.java.ao.RawEntity<Long>

An entity replacing AO's base entity, but with longs as IDs.

It supports 2^63 items instead of 2 billion.

AO seems to smoothlessly migrate:

• New tables will be created as LONG
• Existing tables are automatically updated to LONG,
• BUT the sequence itself, which generates the IDs, still has a maximum of Integer.MAX_VALUE. Sysadmins just have to "pop that limit" when they need, but it's a manual operation.

"Long" is represented by:

• Postgres: BIGINT

Migration tutorial

• Instead of extending Entity, please extend LongEntity
• All foreign keys to that entity must be updated from "int" to "long"
• Tell customers to migrate their sequences
